Hunting areas and accommodation

CDPS is based in the heartbeat of the Waterberg, in the district of Lephalale formerly known as Ellisras, Limpopo Province, South Africa.

Corne hand picks only the most natural ranches as hunting concessions and has areas that cover over 80 000 acres of African bush. Although the ranches are fenced we conduct truly fair and ethical hunting practices. “I want my clients to have a true African field experience and to spend as much time in the veld as possible”. For that reason most of the hunting takes place on the same property as the camp – a 4400 acre ranch where we have sole hunting rights. Other concessions are within a 1 to 1˝ hour drive from the camp. When we hunt away from camp lunch is served in the bush – again to maximize our time and to give you a great bush experience.

Species to be hunted will determine the area and ranches to be hunted on.

We have different camps that we use to accommodate our guests; however Tholo is our main camp with a picturesque setting in the beauty and surrounds of the Waterberg mountains. Each chalet and the central living area overlook a dam where animals come to drink and birds keep busy.

The well appointed and separate chalets offer very comfortable twin accommodation with spacious en suite bathrooms (shower and bath) and a veranda.

The living area offers indoor fire place and TV lounge, bar, inside and outside dining area, swimming pool and camp fire. (Picture)

Firearms and ammunition

Please be advised that you must familiarize yourself with the new Firearm Control Act (FCA 2000), and that you need to be aware of the legal requirements pertaining to the safe handling, storage, transportation and use of the firearm in terms of the FCA 2000. (ACT 60 of 2000).

It is highly recommended that you apply in advance for your temporary firearm import permit and that you make use of PHASA (Professional Hunters Association of S.A.) services to obtain these permits for you and to assist you on arrival in S.A. This cuts out the long wait if you get the permit on arrival.

Read the requirements carefully on the website - it is actually very easy. The web address is: www.phasa.co.za, click on general hunting info and then click on S.A. Firearm Importation Procedures and suggestions.

Feel free to contact CDPS at any time for assistance or questions. My recommendation is that you do this at least 4 to 6 weeks before arrival to allow for sufficient time for processing.

Very IMPORTANT is the invitation letter that you need from CDPS.

Weather and clothing

Winter begins late in March and ends at the beginning of September. Winters are mild with warm days although mornings and evenings can be chilly.

Laundry gets done daily so pack lightly. Long sleeve shirts and trousers are recommended for protection against the sun and thorns. However shorts are fine if preferred. A warm jacket, well worn boots and a hat are important. Casual clothes are acceptable for dinner time and bring a swimming costume so you can cool off. Cammo clothes may be worn in South Africa.

Health

The Limpopo Province is a malaria free area. Consult with your medical doctor regarding vaccinations or medication. Take note that if you travel to the east, like Kruger National Park, up north to Botswana and Zimbabwe, that you need to take precautions because of malaria in these areas.

Travel

Clients are met at OR Thambo International Airport in Johannesburg and transported to the hunting area by air conditioned vehicle. This trip takes about 4 hours to the camp. Air charters are available on request and at an additional cost.

Currency

Currency in South Africa is ZAR- RAND. Credit cards are not accepted by CDPS, but are welcomed by most shops. On all non-export items 14% VAT (Value Added Tax) is payable i.e. care hire, flights, accommodation etc.

Customs, passports and visas

In South Africa custom clearance is operative at port of entry. South Africa requires a passport valid for at least 6 months beyond departure date and depending on your country of origin, a Visa. Your passport must have at least three blank Visa pages (not endorsement pages).

Packing, dipping and shipping of trophies

Field preparation of trophies are done in camp and transported to a shipping agent designated by CDPS. Clients will be put in touch with the shipping agent to discuss their requirements and arrangements for payment.

Taxidermy options can be discussed during your safari.

Appendix I animals require an import and export CITES permit.

Appendix II animals require an export CITES permit.
